French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed immense pride in his wife, Brigitte, for her brief appearance in the fourth season of the Netflix series Emily in Paris. Yet, despite his admiration for her cameo, Macron has no plans to grace the screen himself.
In an interview with Variety released on Wednesday, Macron quipped, “I’m not as attractive as Brigitte,” when asked whether he’d been offered a role.
Brigitte Macron, France’s first lady, made a fleeting appearance in one of the new episodes, portraying herself.
“I was incredibly proud, and she was thrilled to do it,” Macron told Variety. “It was just a few minutes, but I believe it was a special moment for her.” Macron went on to praise the show, noting its positive impact on France’s global image. “It’s great for the country’s allure,” he said, further remarking that, from a national perspective, the cameo was a savvy move.
Lily Collins, who stars as Emily in the show, had previously revealed that Brigitte Macron is an avid fan. According to Collins, the first lady extended an invitation to both her and series creator Darren Star a few years back, where she voiced her enthusiasm for joining the cast. “She was so gracious, warm, and full of excitement about the show,” Collins recounted. “Having her on set was an absolute delight.”
As Emily travels to Italy for a holiday in the latter part of season four, Macron playfully issued a warning to Rome: the French capital isn’t ready to relinquish its on-screen star. “We will fight hard to keep her,” he insisted, adding, “Emily in Paris in Rome? That just wouldn’t make sense.”
